Buffalo Hole is on Texas Downs Station, south west ofJoelSprings. This is exactly where my aunty (International Artist Nancy Nodea) was born under a tree in the bush. Way up to the north is Red Butte Country, and the mountains there send lots of rain down to this part, making it very beautiful with a deep waterhole that is full all year round. This is one of the favourite parts of my family’s country, and where we visit as much as we can.
We take the children here, and my aunty and my father (Churchill Cann) tell them all the Dreamtime stories for this area. It’s good for the kids to learn all the stories, so they can tell their children. My father and lots of my family worked on Texas Downs Station, as stockmen and the women helped all around the house. This is our very own country and we love it.
Charlene is definitely one of the most talented, exciting young artists in Australia. Born in Perth in 1977, she grew up at Warmun Community, Turkey Creek, Western Australia.
