Purnululu (Bungle Bungles) is to the east of Warmun (Turkey Creek). The colours of this part of our country change all the time – pink in the morning, red and brown in the hot summer time, black during the storms and green when the grass grows after the first rain. Every time you go there, it looks different.
It’s just like magic – you can paint the same place at a different time of the day or year, and it’s the colours that make it look never the same. I still go to this place with my family on weekends – really good for camping with great fishing and swimming holes everywhere. The tourists love it – lots of people come from a long way to see this country. We are very lucky to live here.
June was born on Texas Downs Station in 1962. She has lost both her mother and father however Madigan Thomas (Senior ochre artist) and husband Sandy Thomas, a Traditional Elder, brought her up and treat her like a daughter.
