05 May Margaret Napangardi Turner
Margaret was born at Mt Doreen, near Alice Springs. She was brought up living a traditional nomadic lifestyle, her mother carrying her from place to place.
When she was young her family moved to Yuendumu, a community 293 km northwest of Alice Springs known for its quality art. She has three sisters who are also painters.
Most of Margaret’s works relate to the Dreaming stories of Jukurrpa, from country near Yuendumu called Janyinki. The works often deal with men’s ceremonial activity in this country, but this knowledge is very sensitive so details are scarce.
