Story

This part of the Chamberlain Gorge is to the west of Kununurra where I live, at the northern part of the famous Gibb River Road. It is a very beautiful and rugged part of the East Kimberley country in Western Australia. I have painted it after the wet time, with four tributaries of the Chamberlain River still with water and running into a big waterhole in the middle of the higher mountain country. The mountain country is very very rough and dangerous.

It is almost impossible to get to this part in the Wet – but around May when the water has gone down, it’s very beautiful. Many people from all over Australia and the world visit this part and our people have always gone here for camping and fishing and lots of good bush tucker. The Rainbow Serpent is said to have left his eggs in this place during his travels in the Dreamtime, and his eggs are there today as the big black rocks.  This part is all Kitja country.
